Morocco Federation Denies Reports of Coach Resignation

The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has dismissed reports claiming that coach Herve Renard has quit his position.

The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has dismissed reports claiming that coach Herve Renard has quit his position.

The FRMF denied that the Frenchman had resigned due to the bad performance of the Moroccan team in the ongoing 2019 African Football Cup in Egypt.

“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation denies the news that is currently being circulated about the resignation of Herve Renard from the training of the national team,” a statement on their official website read.

“It is worth mentioning that the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation held two meetings on Sunday and Monday with Mr Renard to evaluate the participation of the national team in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.”

Considered favourites at the start of this tournament, the Atlas Lions were surprisingly bundled out of the championship following a dramatic 4-1 loss to Benin after the two teams settled for a 1-1 win in over 120 minutes of play.

Renard led Ivory Coast to the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2015, three years after winning it with Zambia.

This was his second attempt to bring the trophy back to Morocco after a quarterfinal exit from the 2017 tournament in Gabon.

FRMF is expected to hold an emergency executive committee meeting on July 22 to discuss Atlas Lions’ dismal performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
