AS Monaco and Senegal forward Krepin Diatta will miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals due to a knee injury.

Ducor Sports understands that Diatta is also likely to be out for the rest of the 2021/2022 season for Monaco as he picked up anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Diatta, 22, is set to undergo surgery on the issue, according to Ducor Sports sources.

Contrary to some reports, the former Club Brugge player has not fractured his leg, but will have to go under the knife to fix the problem which is understood to be an historic injury.

Diatta picked up the injury in his club’s league match against Lille where he scored his first goal of the season in a 2-2 home draw.

The youngster started his professional career at Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 then moved to Belgian side Club Brugge before being snapped up by the French giants AS Monaco.

The youngster has made 19 appearances for Senegal and was named Young Player of the Tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

Senegal have been drawn in Group B in Africa Cup of Nations and will begin their tournament against Zimbabwe on January 1, before facing Guinea and then Malawi on January 14 and January 18.
