Mogadishu City Go Down Fighting

Despite an improved performance, a fumble from Ali Kimera cost Mogadishu City Club 2-1 defeat to APR in second leg of CAF Champions League preliminary round at Stade Regional de Kigali.

Hassan Karera separated the sides with his 73rd minute header to help APR sail to first round of Champions League.Bi Marc Boue had given the Somali Premier League giants the lead on 24th minute before Djabel Manishimwe equalized at hour mark.

Mogadishu had a dream start as Nicholas Kagaba was presented with a chance to score barely a minute into the encounter.

However, the veteran attacker failed to convert after Hassan Karera had failed to clear the ball outside the box.

Hassan Santos had an empty net at his mercy with only two APR defenders in front of him, and his attempt was blocked by Armel Kenese.

Mogadishu made amends as a rebound from Stephane’s shot found Bi Marc Boue inside the APR box, and the Ivorian attacker slotted the ball into the roof.

APR had a chance for an equalizer when they found City defence wanting inside their own box but was unfortunate as his attempt came off the woodwork after 36 minutes.

Kagaba missed two goalscoring chances in a very short space of time as he hit the upright before firing wide in his second attempt minutes later.

Mogadishu City had a good start to the second half but APR upped the ante and pulled one back through Djabel Manishimwe.

With the game into its last 20 minutes, Willic found a nice chance to send Mogadishu ahead from a scramble follow following a corner but the winger headed straight to the hands of Ishimwe.

Mogadishu found them under immense pressure soon afterwards and they soaked in the second goal when Kimera failed to stop a cross from the right with Manishimwe sending a bullet shaped header into an empty net.

APR had a scare closer to the end of the game when a dangerous cross was played into the box, and Ishimwe failed to clear despite coming flying off his line.
