Mazembe Return To Winning Ways With Win Against Coton Sport

TP Mazembe enjoyed a 1-0 victory over Coton Sport on Sunday, in match day three of the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup.

Midfielder Glody Likonza scored the lone goal of the encounter to hand the Ravens a crucial away in their bid for a quarter-final ticket.

The Congolese international netted a beautiful finish with four minutes remaining to the end of the match at Stade du Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

After a quiet spell in the half, Ravens goalkeeper, Ibrahim Mounkoro, was called into action just before the break, as he kept out Mubarak Moussa’s powerful effort from distance.

Philliphes Kinzumbi had a decent chance on target early in the game but he sent his effort too close to Gadin Allambatnan who made a comfortable stop.

Coton Sport threatened the Mazembe goalmouth around the 39th minute when a cross into a dangerous area beat the defence. However, there was no one on the end of it to steer it home.

The visitors picked up the tempo at the start of the second half and Aboubakar Souleymanou brought on striker, Felix Oukine, in the hope bagging the opener.

The visitors then went close to finding the back in the 72nd minute when Souaibou Marou was denied by a fine save by Mounkoro from six-yards out.

Luzolo Sita nearly scored for the home side in the 80th minute with an acrobatic effort, but his scissor kick failed to beat Allambatnan.

The deadlock was finally found on the 86th minute when Glody Likonza produced the decisive strike after Tresor Mputu’s assist

Mazembe managed to hold on for the win and have now moved on top of Group C with six points but they might lose the position if Al Masry beats Otoho d’Oyo in the next match to be played later on Sunday.
