Match Winner Niang: Senegal Can Go Far in World Cup

Match-winner Mabye Niang believes Senegal can get far in the on-going World Cup in Russia.

The Taranga Lions’ forward rifled in the second goal in the 2-1 triumph over Poland.

The 23-year-old was being treated on the pitch peripheries before being allowed back to the pitch.

Many label the referee’s decision to let in the  on-loan AC Milan starlet in which the forward was able to beat the advancing goalkeeper to the ball for the game’s second, a controversial move.

The Red and Whites though pulled a goal back via a delectable header but it was too late too little to spark up a moment magic to force for a share of the spoils.

Following the win –making Senegal the first African team to win its opener game – Mbaye feels the West African nation can get far in the tournament.

he says.

Responding to questions regarding his goal, an effort the BBC choose to slam as ‘horrendous’, the French-born said:  “I was on the side when the referee told him to come in and there was a ball coming from behind, I felt that there was something to do. I anticipated the defender and the goalkeeper to find myself facing the empty goal. It’s not easy, but you have to put it on.”

The forward was voted man-of-the-match at end of the game. On the agenda next for  Senegal is tie with Japan this Sunday June 24th.
