Maritzburg Fire Coach Fadlu Davids

South Africa Premier Soccer League outfit Maritzburg United have dismissed Fadlu Davids as head coach of the team following a string of poor results in 2018-2019 campaign.

South Africa Premier Soccer League outfit Maritzburg United have dismissed Fadlu Davids as head coach of the team following a string of poor results in 2018-2019 campaign.

The Team of Choice released the bombshell via their official Facebook page on Monday afternoon.

“Maritzburg United can confirm that Coach Fadlu Davids has left the club. We would like to thank Davids for his contribution to the club and wish him success in his future endeavors,” read a club statement.

“An announcement on a new head coach will be made in due time. Once again the club would like to reiterate it’s commitment to the fans and its stakeholders.”

On Sunday there were reports that the South African international could face the axe after Midlands outfit’s 1-0 loss to Baroka FC at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

Davids, who has been in charge for almost one-and-half years, was in desperate need of a victory to save his job.

Last season, the Team of Choice finished fourth on the log and made their maiden final appearance in the Nedbank Cup where they were beaten 1-0 by Free State Stars.

Maritzburg have registered one victory this season in the league. That win came in September against Bloemfontein Celtic away from home.
