Manchester City Clear Riyad Mahrez to Resume Training After Ankle Injury

Riyad Mahrez to resume training ahead of Community Shield clash with Chelsea.

Manchester City have dismissed fears over Riyad Mahrez’s injury by confirming that the player has been given a green light to return to training ahead of Saturday’s Community Shield clash against Chelsea.

The 27-year-old was substituted during the Citizens 3-2 pre-season win over Germany giants Bayern Munich after taking a knock from American defender Chris Richards.

He was seen later on crutches wearing a protective boot on his left foot which raised doubts over whether the Algerian would be fully fit in time for the community shield clash against Chelsea.

Mahrez who joined City for a record 60 million pounds appeared to have settled in straight away before he was forced off in the 27th minute. It was a surprise for Mahrez to go down so easily considering he’s one of the few lucky players that never gets injured.

According to Transfer Market UK, he has only one injury on record in recent years, which kept him out for a mere 9 days in the 2015/16 season.

Manchester City will start the season with the traditional curtain raiser against FA champions Chelsea before kicking off their title defense against Arsenal at the Emirates.
