Malawi Sack National Team Coach

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has sacked Abel Mkandawire as national women’s team coach following appraisal of his tenure.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has sacked Abel Mkandawire as national women’s team coach following appraisal of his tenure.
Mkandawire has been relieved of the post after the She-Flames poor performance in the 2020 Olympics qualifiers in August.
Malawi crashed out 5-3 to Kenya in their two-legged Olympic qualifier, an exit that the federation termed as “premature” after analysing the report that the coach handed to the authorities several weeks ago.
“I have received an email confirming my dismissal as the coach of the team,” Mkandawire told reporters.
“The FA has informed me they are making frantic effort to settle my outstanding arrears.”
The CAF-A License holder Mkandawire won just one match of four competitive games after taking over the She-Flames from Maggie Chombo-Sadik, who serves as the team’s technical director.
Also sent packing are his assistants MacNebert Kazuwa and Andrew Chikhosi together with goalkeeping coach Chimwemwe Chitedze.
The federation is now hunting for a manager to prepare the national side for the 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Congo.
