Liverpool Defender Joel Matip Turns Down Cameron’s African Cup of Nations Return Plea

Liverpool Central defender Joel Matip has turned down a chance to revive his international career with Cameroon at the African Cup of nations.

Matip hasn’t played for Cameron in over a year after his self-imposed exile from the national setup in 2015.

He had earned 27 caps for the indomitable lions but the defender always spoke up against the poor organization of the side and even ignored calls from the Cameroonian boss.

According to Sky Sport News sources, the defender has decided against ending his exile and is hoping to help Liverpool continue their title challenge.

Matip has been phenomenon in the Liverpool defense since joining the Premier League and his absence from the Liverpool line-up on Sunday against Bournemouth was clear as the Reds shipped four goals in a 4-3 defeat.

In the 11 league games where Matip has played, Liverpool have conceded nine goals but Jurgen Klopp’s side have let in the same number of goals in the three matches Matip has missed.

The defender returned to training today and joined them during their team bonding exercise in Barcelona.

This news comes as huge boast for the Reds who definitely look weaker without him. He is expected to be fit for the match against West Ham this Sunday.
