Limbe Omnisport Stadium Ripped Off By Strong Winds

Strong winds yesterday blew off part of the roof of Limbe Omnisport Stadium which is one of the venues earmarked to host 2021 Africa Cup of Nations matches.

Strong winds yesterday blew off part of the roof of Limbe Omnisport Stadium which is one of the venues earmarked to host 2021 Africa Cup of Nations matches.

No one was injured when the violent 20 km/hr wind crumpled the grandstand roof of the 20,000 capacity stadium which is located in southwest region of Cameroon.

Limbe Omnisport Stadium was cleared by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in February 2016 to host international matches.

The roofing of the Limbe Omnisport Stadium, which was halted during the 2016 Women Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Chinese builders of the stadium were dismissed, was completed by Egyptian company, Arab Contractors.

The last inspections missions by CAF to Cameroon failed to visit the venue, and based on an assumption, declared it ready to host the competition.

Cameroon’s Sports Ministry has not yet issued a statement to say when works will start to fix the roof that has been taken off by the winds.
