Liberia: LISCR Overtake FC Bea Mountain to Take the Top Spot

The 2022–23 Liberia first division league season has seven rounds left to play, and the title race is getting intense and intriguing.

Interestingly, the title race is still wide-open and no clear favorites exist.

After topping the league table for over half of the league season FC Bea Mountain have been dethroned by LISCR FC.

FC Bea Mountain have gone 19 games without a loss, but their recent performance of four straight draws had a negative effect on their unbeaten run as their main rival, LISCR FC, continued to close the gap.

Following a 3-0 victory over Freeport FC at the Tusa Field on Thursday, LISCR jumped to the top by two points, while Bea Mountain settled for a goalless draw away to Nimba Kwado in a game that saw three players sent off. The first half saw Nimba Kwado down to nine players.

Bea Mountain and LISCR were tied on points going into the Thursday matchday, with Bea Mountain leading on goal differential.

This was the first time LISCR had risen to the top of the standings since November 14, 2021, on the third matchday of the previous league season.

Third-place Watanga FC failed to reduce the gap at the top after suffering a shocking 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Nimba United.

The win for Nimba United was the second of their campaign and ended their 15-game winless run. They still remain bottom with 14 points from 19 games.

Second phase in-form Heaven Eleven continued their unbeaten run in the second phase of the campaign with a 2-0 win against Jubille FC, who have returned to the bottom three.

Heaven Eleven moved into the top half of the table (5th), ahead of Muscat FC, who defeated Mighty Barrolle 1-0 to move 6th,  pushing Barrolle from 5th to 7th.

LISCR, Bea Mountain, and Heaven Eleven are the three teams that are yet to concede defeat in the second half of the season.
