Lesotho, South Sudan Through To AFCON Qualifiers Group Stage

Lesotho and South Sudan booked a slot each in the group stages of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after seeing of their respective second leg tie with victories.

At the Dobsonville Stadium, Lesotho had to bag a 3-1 win at home after a goalless stalemate at the hands of Seychelles last Wednesday.

Katleho Makateng, who was making his second appearance for the Likuenas, netted a brace with Motebang Sera scoring the third goal.

Lesotho are hosting their games in South Africa due to the unavailability of a home ground back home.

Elsewhere at St Mary Stadium in Kampala, South Sudan beat Djibouti 1-0, with the goal coming in the 55th minute from speedy forward Peter Chol.

Following the result, South Sudan went through with a 5-2 aggregate over the two legs.

Meanwhile, at Côte d’Or Stadium hosts Mauritius could not overturn the 1-0 loss they suffered last Wednesday as Sao Tome and Principe forced a 3-3 draw .

The first leg win by the visitors means they are now out of the race to book a spot in Ivory Coast as they failed to use the home advantage.

In another match, Eswatini edged past Somalia 2-1 with Sabelo ‘Skhali’ Ndzinisa and Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba on target for the hosts at Mbombela Stadium, South Africa.

Eswatini knocked Somalia out of the TotalEnergies AFCON Qualifiers Preliminary Round by 5-1 aggregate score.
