Leonardo Castro Signs New Two-Year Deal At Chiefs

Leonardo Castro has signed a new two-year deal at Kaizer Chiefs, putting an end to rumours suggesting he was on his way out of Naturena.

Leonardo Castro has signed a new two-year deal at Kaizer Chiefs, putting an end to rumours suggesting he was on his way out of Naturena.

The 31-year-old was linked with a move to the French Ligue 1 side Amiens, with offers in the region of £700,000 expected for a player who has rattled the net eight times this season.

The Colombian international, who joined the Kaizer Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns midway through the 2017/18, has now committed himself to the Absa Premiership club until 2022.

Castro told the club’s official website: “Thank you so much. I am very happy with the Chairman Kaizer Motaung and Club. I am also grateful to continue to wear the Gold & Black. This is sensitive for me because I have not won a trophy yet with the team. And to leave without a gold medal would be a defeat for me.

“I wish to win something. And I think with the squad we have at the moment; we are capable of doing well. My family is excited about this development. We are happy to remain in South Africa. Thank you once more to the Chairman and the Club.”

Before joining Chiefs, Castro was linked with a move to North Africa but opted to remain in South Africa for a move to their domestic rivals in a reported R2-million transfer.

Last season, Castro made 30 appearances across all competitions. He was directly involved in 14 goals – seven goals and seven assists for Amakhosi.
