Laurent Blanc to be Named New Morocco Coach

Former Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc is set to be named coach of the Atlas Lions, Ducor Sports can reveal.

The development comes few weeks after their immediate former coach Herve Renard threw in the towel after their shock exit at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The experience Blanc was expected to hold talks with Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) officials this morning upon arrival from Paris.

Blanc has been a free agent since 2016 when he left PSG after he failed to make substantial progress in the Champions League.

The 53-year-old, nicknamed ‘Le President’, began his coaching career with Bordeaux in 2007 and led them to the Ligue 1 title in just his second season at the helm.

His first national team coach job was with France between 2010 and 2012, a job that he resigned after Les Blues’ disappointing performance in European championships.

If appointed Blanc will be charged to qualify the Atlas Lions to the next Africa Cup of Nations which is expected to be hosted by Cameroon in 2021.

Morocco will face Central Africa, Burundi and Mauritania in the Group G of the qualifiers that will be staged on October 7 and will end in November 2020.
