Kenya Finishes Tokyo Olympics As Best Ranked African Team

Kenya has gone home from the Tokyo Olympics with four gold medals, four silver medals and  three bronze medals to finish at position 19, the best performing nation from Africa.

The East African country gathered impressive ten medals and was second  to the United States and Italy in track and field medals.

Uganda finished the games as the second best ranked African nation, taking position 30, with a tally of four medals.

The Ugandans won two golds, one silver and one bronze in an outing that marks their best Olympic performance in history.

South Africa finished at number 52 with one gold and two bronze medals that marked their one worst performances in the nation’s history at the Olympics.

Egypt, Ethiopia, Tunisia , Morocco, Nigeria, Namibia, Botswana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast were the other countries that were in the Olympics global rankings.

USA topped the medals table with 39 golds, just one ahead of China while host Japan came in third position with a total of 27 gold medals.

Many analysts attributed the poor performance by African teams to several factors such as Covid complications, delays, protests and constantly changing goalposts.
