Reports coming out of Uganda suggest that Murushid Juuko has joined Ugandan side Express FC on a one-year deal.

Reports coming out of Uganda suggest that Murushid Juuko has joined Ugandan side Express FC on a one-year deal.

The former Wydad Casablanca defender, who was linked with a move to Asante Kotoko, has now been snapped up by the Red Eagles as they prepare for the upcoming 2020-21 Uganda Premier League season.

According to reports, Express wanted Juuko on a long term contract, but could not afford his wages. They opted for a twelve-month deal that will see the defender playing for the club for one season.

It is still unclear how much the sign-on fee was, but sources within the club indicate that the defender agreed to a fee of $10,000 for a period of one year.

He has signed hoping to secure a ticket to Cameroon and impress in the continental tournament to attract new suitors.

The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a potential move to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko but the talks collapsed at the eleventh hour.

Juuko has been unattached since parting ways with Wydad Casablanca several months ago, although he has been spotted twice training with SC Villa to keep fit.

The experienced defender also had interests from South Africa side SuperSport United and his decision to return to the local league is to work on his fitness as he eyes a return to Uganda Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry’s plans for 2021 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Juuko has formerly played for Victoria University, Vipers SC before joining Tanzanian giants Simba SC in 2014.

Express are set to beef up their defensive line ahead of the 2020-21 Uganda Premier League season which is likely to start in October.
