Jose Alesanco Leaves Role As Mamelodi Sundowns Technical Director

South Africa Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns have announced Jose Roman Alesanco has left his role as Technical Director with immediate effect.

In a statement announcing Alesanco’s departure, Sundowns confirmed the former Spanish international has left to attend to personal and family matters in Madrid.

The former Barcelona assistant coach joined the Brazilians in September 2019 as part of a restructuring plan to improve the team’s performance in Africa.

“Mamelodi Sundowns today announced that due to personal family matters in Spain, Jose Ramon Alesanco will not continue as the Head of Technical at Mamelodi Sundowns,” the  club announced on official website.

“Mamelodi Sundowns is thankful and expresses its gratitude to Jose Ramon Alesanco for the good work he did at the Academy and at the Senior Club.

“The President of Mamelodi Sundowns, Dr. Patrice Motsepe thanked Alesanco for his dedication, hard work, professionalism and for his contribution to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Sundowns wishes Jose Ramon Alesanco and Zigor Salcedo everything of the best and will continue to be in contact with Jose Ramon Alesanco and Zigor Salcedo.”

Alesanco enjoyed a fruitful playing career where he won four La Liga titles with Spanish giants Barcelona and also had a spell at Athletic Bilbao.

His playing career ended in 1993 and he moved to Romania to earn his stripes as a coach, before returning to Barcelona in 2000 as an assistant to first-team head coach Carles Rexach.

In 2005 he served as a youth system coordinator at Barca, before moving over to take up the role of director of football at Valencia in 2017.
