Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) president Augustin Sidy Diallo, who was battling Covid-19, has died, a source at the country’s football governing body has confirmed.

The 61-year-old football administrator breathed last late on Friday night at an Abidjan Hospital where he was admitted after developing COVID-19 complications.

Diallo was undergoing treatment at the private hospital, after being moved from a government medical college hospital in Yamoussoukro, where he had been admitted to after he complained of uneasiness.

The FIF called all the citizens who have been in contact with Diallo to remain vigilant and to take the necessary precautions in case of any symptoms

Diallo was elected as the President of Ivorian FA for the first time in September 2011 succeeding former FIFA and CAF  Executive Committee member Jacques Anouma, who ruled the body for a decade.

He was re-elected for a second term in February 2016 when 70 out of the 76 clubs present and the 5 football interest groups renewed their trust in his administration.

Diallo was completing his second term and had already announced that he would not be running for a third term leaving federation’s current first vice-president Sory Diabate to vie for the seat.
