“I’m Surprised,” Clinton Njie Fires Back at Fecafoot on Claims He Smuggled Women into Camp

Striker Clinton Njie has fired back voicing surprise at Cameroon FA’s claims he smuggled women in the national team’s hotel.

Striker Clinton Njie has fired back voicing surprise at Cameroon FA’s claims he smuggled women in the national team’s hotel in the buildup to an international friendly against Burkina Faso.

The 24-year-old Olympique Marseille attacker was responding to claims contained in a leaked letter signed by the Secretary General Normalization Committee of Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), Martin Itonge which also accuses him of late arrival in camp without any justification.

“I was surprised few days ago to see a private correspondent intended for me circulating on social media networks. As much as I am shocked by the approach, I am surprised by the content,” said Njie in a press statement sent to media houses.

“I will comply with the clarification requested before appropriate authorities. My career and my honor are attacked. I will defend myself with the weapons of truth.”

“I shared my room during the selection with Fai Collins. We separated from our supervisors at the end of this grouping without any knowledge or questioning about any incident. I really hope it’s a misunderstanding or confusion.”

The former Tottenham Hotspurs marksman also added that he will nonetheless comply with the request by the authorities so as to clear the misunderstandings.

Njie has been given eight days by Fecafoot to justify himself or face severe sanctions.

But in spite of the accusations, he has vowed to continue defending the colours of Cameroon with pride, dignity and honor, “as long as nature gives me the necessary strength and fortitude”.

When reached, Cameroon football governing body failed to respond to a query on how the private document leaked from their office and made public without the knowledge of the striker.

It should be remembered that former Indomitable Lions’ coach Hugo Broos once warned Njie against poor discipline.

“Njie might ruin his international career if he doesn’t work hard and be more disciplined,” Broos said while explaining why he had snubbed Njie.
