Hugo Broos Appointed New Bafana Bafana Coach

The South Africa Football Association have announced the appointment of Hugo Broos as Bafana Bafana coach.

The 69-year-old has signed a two-year- deal to take over from Molefi Ntseki who was shown the door following Bafana failure to qualify for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He will start work on Monday and his contract will finish at the end of July 2023 – after that year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Hugo Broos has just four weeks to prepare Bafana Bafana for African World Cup Qualifier against Zimbabwe.

The South Africa Football Association have given Broos a target of “doing well” at the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and to guide the team to Africa Cup of Nations finals two years later.

South Africa’s job is a second international assignment for Broos in Africa, having led Cameroon to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations title in Gabon.

South Africa has a rich football history and is among the powerhouse on the continent,” Broos told Safa website.

“The country has full of quality and I am coming to coach a truly football nation with massive potential.

“I need to start from there because I want to build a strong Bafana Bafana side for the future. This is a really exciting project and I am really excited.”

Broos won the Belgian Championship twice with Club Brugge as a manager and then again with Anderlecht. He has also enjoyed coaching spells in Greece, Turkey and Algeria in recent years.

Bafana Bafana are in Group G and have to overcome Ethiopia, Ghana and Zimbabwe for a spot in the final round of qualifiers.
