Hubert Velud: Sudan Confirm Departure Of Falcons of Jediane Coach

Sudan Football Federation (SFF) has confirmed the termination of national team head coach Hubert Velud’s contract.

The Frenchman was appointed to replace Croatian Zdravko Lugarusic, whose contract with the Falcons of Jediane expired after the defeat to South Africa in the second match day of Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 qualifiers.

“ Sudan Football Federation has reached into an agreement to terminate Hubert Velud’s contract as the head coach of the national team, Falcons of Jediane,” read the confirmation letter obtained by Ducor Sports on Sunday.

“The two parties have agreed to part ways after holding consultation talks together.SFF would like to say thank you to coach Velud  because of what he did and achieved with Falcons of Jediane. We would like to wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

Velud has left his position after Sudan struggled in the FIFA Arab Cup. He helped Falcons of Jediane qualify for the tournament meant exclusively for the Arab nations.

He guided the CECAFA nation to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations that will be hosted in Cameroon next month.

Velud is one of the most experienced foreign coaches in Africa having handled coached several clubs including ES Setif, USM Alger, CS Constantine, TP Mazembe and Etoile du Sahel.

Velud was also in charge of the Togo side between 2009 and 2010.

Sudan said Burhan Tia, who has worked in domestic league for over 26 years, will guide the Falcons of Jediane to Africa Cup of Nations.

He will be assisted by Mubarak Soliman and Mohsen Sayed in a tough mission of streeing the Falcons to AFCON knockout stage.

Sudan are placed in Group D of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Nigeria, Egypt and Guinea-Bissau.
