How Did African Players in the Premier League Kick Off the New Year in Match Day 22?

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Senegalese Mama Biram Diouf came close to scoring for Stoke City in their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle. Egyptian Ramadan Sobhi remained on the bench despite scoring in the previous two games. Mohamed Diame and Christian Atsu both started for Newcastle.

Algerian duo Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani got on the score sheet with the former assisting the latter’s goal for Leicester City in their 3-0 win over Huddersfield. Daniel Amartey continued to impress alongside Wilfred Ndidi while Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute. Benin international, Steve Mounie was the only forward for Huddersfield in their 3-0 defeat.

Sadio Mane scored Liverpool’s first goal in their 2-1 win over Burnley. Joel Matip who spent most of the time on the bench came on as a late substitute while Mohamed Salah was not in the squad due to injury.

Paul Pogba assisted both of Manchester United’s goals in their 2-0 win over Everton. Yannick Bolasie started the game and Oumar Niasse of Senegal was the lead man who failed to capitalize on the Killer passes from Bolasie and others. He was substituted off in the 81st minute.

Andre Ayew was an unused substitute in West Ham’s 2-1 win over West Brom, while Cheikhou Kouyate and Arthur Masuaku started for the hammers. Egyptian, Ahmed Hegazi started for West Brom.

Ghanaian, Jordan Ayew started for Swansea in their 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. Victor Wanyama came on as a second-half substitute in the 59th minute while Serge Aurier was unused.

Moroccan, Sofiane Boufal started for Southampton in their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha, Jeffrey Schlupp, and Bakary Sako all featured for Crystal Palace.

Yaya Toure came on as a substitute in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Watford.  Mali’s Molla Wague started for Watford in defense.

Nigerian, Victor Moses started for Chelsea in their 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates. Alex Iwobi and Mohamed Elneny were unused substitutes for Arsenal.

In the final match of Game week 22, two quality goals were scored in an enthralling encounter between Tottenham and West Ham where spoils were shared after a 1-1 draw.

Serge Aurier started while Victor Wanyama came on as a substitute for Tottenham. Kouyate and Masuaku both started for West Ham while Andre Ayew came on as a second-half substitute.
