Hector Cuper Appointed DR Congo coach

The DR Congo Football Association (FECOFA) announced on Thursday that it has appointed Hector Cuper as head coach for its men’s senior team, the Leopards.

The FECOFA has been searching for a new coach after it axed former coach Christian Nsengi-Biembe who failed to lead the Leopards to the next year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

DR Congo started negotiations with a number of coaches like Hugo Broos, Sebastien Migne, Michel Georges Jean Ghislain Preud’homme, Patrive Neveu and Cuper before the Argentine was announced as Leopards new manager on Monday.

FECOFA were due to announce Belgian Hugo Broos but were informed that the gaffer was in talks with the South African Football Association at the final hour.

Cuper has the task of ensuring that the Egyptians qualify for the 2023 Afcon that will be hosted by Ivory Coast.

The Argentine trainer also has the condition of leading the Leopards to the next Fifa World Cup in 2022 or end his contract in the event of his failure to do so.

Cuper, born in 1955, has had managerial spells at Mallorca, Valencia, Internazionale, Real Betis, Parma, Georgia and Egyptian national team.
