Guinea-Bissau will play Benin at Stade Charles de Gaulle, in Porto-Novo on October 13, in an international friendly match.
FFGB boss Manuel Nascimento Lopes confirmed that the two countries had sealed the agreement regarding the upcoming friendly international match.
Lopes also revealed the reason why they picked Benin saying that it was after an internal assessment that showed that the Squirrels would offer them the competitiveness that would help them in the AFCON qualifiers in November.
“We have been working internally and we found as a competitive opponent that will give us the expected test that we are looking for,” Lopes told reporters.
Guinea-Bissau last met Benin in the group stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt and the meeting ended in a goalless draw.
The Djurtus will begin their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign with the visit to the Lions of Teranga before hosting Congo later in the month.
Guinea-Bissau are in Group I together with Congo, Eswatini and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finalists, Senegal.
Benin will begin their AFCON 2021 campaign with a visit to Nigeria in November before meeting Sierra Leone in their second-round match.
The next AFCON is scheduled for Cameroon in 2021 and two teams from each group qualify for the continent’s premier tournament.
