Guinea-Bissau Striker Toni Silva Released by Egyptian Side Al Ittihad

Egyptian side Al Ittihad have handed a clearance to Guinea-Bissau international Toni Silva to look for another club elsewhere.

Egyptian side Al Ittihad have handed a clearance to Guinea-Bissau international Toni Silva to look for another club elsewhere.

The 25-year-old forward failed to live to the expectations of the Alexandria-based club.

The striker just made seven starts for the team and a few substitute appearances in their league campaign of 2018/2019 season.

“Toni Silva has parted ways with Al Ittihad,” a source told Ducor Sports; ” I can’t disclose more than that and give out more confidential information.”

Silva joined Al Ittihad in January from Mamelodi Sundowns for a fee in the region of $ 200,000 following a public fallout with coach Pitso Mosimane.

The former Liverpool player spent his youth career at Benfica and Chelsea where he was regarded by some as a brighter prospect than Raheem Sterling.

At Liverpool, he trained with the senior squad alongside Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, but could not break through.

Since leaving the English Premier League side seven years ago, Silva has played for eight clubs – from Dagenham and Redbridge to Turkish second division side Şanlıurfa SK.

Silva is expected to look for a club in South Africa though he previously mentioned hanging his boots after a series of disappointment by dozens of agents.
