Ghana’s Robert Mensah Comes From an Injury Streak to Win Double in Liberia’s 1st Division League

Having signed a two-year deal with one of Liberia’s top-flight clubs, LISCR FC, Ghanaian striker Robert Mensah, has had a difficult start to the 2016/2017 league season after sustaining a knee injury against Keitrace FC in his debut match.

The injury kept the former Wassaman United striker out for a period of close to five months, leading to his absence for the first half of the season.

He was later hit by another injury during a preparation build-up to the second half of the season, breaking his right hand and in the process, staying out for two months.

The 20-year-old’s return, coming at a time when his side was at the crucial stages of the FA Cup campaign, was a chance to rise up, netting two goals to help his side reach the quarter-finals of the knockout.

But his third goal was one of the most important goals for the Shipping Boys in the competition. With less than 15 minutes left on the clock with an aggregate of 2-1 against LISCR, Mensah was introduced by Gambian Coach Tapha Manneh to increase on the attacking force.

Teammate, Christopher Jackson got the equalizer to level the aggregate at 2-2 before the Ghanaian’s strikes sent the team through to the semifinals after bagging in the fourth goal in stoppage time.

LISCR was on Sunday, August 13, crowned champions of the knockout following a 3-0 win over ELWA United, making it the team’s second trophy of the season after winning the championship four days before the knockout final.

said Mensah.
