Ghana Face Comoros In Make-or-Break Match

Ghana will chase a place in the next round of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations when they face Comoros in their final Group C match at Roumdé Adjia stadium in Garoua on Tuesday, January 18, kick-off at 19h00 GMT.

Ghana have endured a slow start to the tournament and will be desperate to claim their first win and keep their hopes of winning their fifth continental title alive.

The Black Stars lost their opening game by a solitary goal to Morocco and that was followed by a 1-1 draw against Gabon last Friday.

The result left the Black Stars third on the pool with one point, five points behind leaders Morocco. The West Africans will know that a win guarantees a place in the knockout rounds of the competition.

Coach Milovan Rajevac will want to see an improved efficiency in attack from his team, which missed several good chances to claim a win over Gabon but weren’t able to be ruthless and clinical – two characteristics they will need to demonstrate if they are to get the better of their East African opponents.

“It was a difficult and competitive game. We were supposed to end the match winning, but as in the first game we lost concentration,” Rajevac said after Gabon game.

“ I think in the next game we will do better and we will be able to collect the three points to move on to the next stage. We need to stay focused and be strong-minded to move on.”

Comoros, meanwhile, stayed of the course of elimination after losing 2-0 against Morocco last Friday. They had lost their opening match 1-0 to Gabon.

The Islanders will have a mathematical chance of making to the knockout phase if they record a victory against Ghana’s the Black Stars.

Comoros head coach Amir Abdou will be keen on their tournament debut to mastermind a famous victory over Ghana .

“We played against an experienced team which had high and low moments. We tried to stop Morocco’s opportunities, but they are a fast team in transitions and have a very compact defense. For sure they will have a say in this competition,” the French-born coach said after Morocco match.

“Let’s think about the game against Ghana. We need to find solutions, the last game will be like a final for us.”

This will be the third meeting between Ghana and Comoros.

The Black Stars have picked up one win from their previous two encounters, while the spoils have been shared once.
