Gambia are scheduled to face Tunisia in their final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group F match at Limbe Omnisport Stadium in Cameroon on Thursday.
Kick-off is at 16h00 GMT.
The Scorpions kept their hopes of advancing to the Round of 16 are alive after they recorded a valuable 1-1 draw against Mali on Sunday.
The victory took Gambia to the top of the group standings with four points and a win over Tunisia will see them book their place in the knockout phase.
Gambia striker Musa Barrow, who scored late penalty against Mali, will be looking to find the back of the net and help his side stun the Carthage Eagles.
“I am prepared and focus to continue from where I left of the last game,” Barrow told CAFOnline.
“We always learn from each game, playing as a team and continue to be humble and stay focus and Insh’Allah (God willing) results will come,” he continued.
Defeating their more illustrious opponents will be tough, but Gambia have already made a big improvement from their opening 1-0 win to Mauritania and a continuation of that upward trend could see them spring a surprise against the North Africans.
Tunisia, meanwhile, claimed their first Africa Cup of Nations win on Sunday when they thrashed Mauritania 4-0, a result which keeps them in the hunt for a place in the last 16 – even though they enter the clash as the third-placed team.
The Carthage Eagles will know that a win guarantees them a berth in the last 16 of the AFCON but they will be concerned by their lack of form thus far.
Tunisia coach Mondher Kebaier is well aware that his charges didn’t start the tournament on the right gear as they lost to Mali and will want a major response in this final group match.
“The first match was laborious, we expected a feeling of revolt. It was necessary to make a reaction of men, of honor. We started the match well, the players were determined to continue at the same pace,” said coach Kebaier.
“We must have this hatred of defeat, vary our game, correct the transmissions to try to beat Gambia in the next match.”
Saint-Etienne forward Wahbi Khazri remains Tunisia’s dangerman and he will be keen to inspire the Carthage Eagles to victory over the Scorpions.
In Head-to-Head stats, Gambia and Tunisia have met three times and the Carthage Eagles have recorded two victories, while one match ended in a draw.
