Gabon Coach Patrice Neveu Extends Contract

Gabon national team football manager Patrice Neveu has extended his contract to 2023, taking him beyond 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 67-year old took over from Daniel Cousin who failed to qualify the central African nations to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Neveu has guided the team to several victories including the return to the next year’s AFCON finals that will be held in Cameroon.

“The contract has been renewed for two-months with the same conditions as before,” Gabon FA chief Pierre Alain Mounguengui said in a press conference.

The contract extension means Neveu will be able to complete the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with the opening group match against Libya in September.

He is equally expected to qualify the Panthers to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that will be hosted in Ivory Coast.

Neveu became coach of the national team in May 2019 and it was to run until the end of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Neveu started his coaching career with French semi-professional clubs Angoulme and La Rochelle before moving to Africa and China.

He has worked in Morocco at AS Sale, Egypt with Ismaily and Smouha, Haiti, Laos national teams and in China worked at Dalian Shide and Zhuhai.
