Future Of Nigeria Coach Gernot Rohr Is In Doubt

The future of Gernot Rohr as the head coach of Nigeria national team has become increasingly doubtful despite his team’s progressing to Africa’s 2022 World Cup play-offs.

Reports have stated that Nigeria FA officials are planning to sack coach Rohr before 2021 Africa Cup of Nations  set for January next year, and three names have been bandied about regarding the Super Eagles’ head coach role.

It is understood that those within Nigeria FA executive committee are divided regarding Rohr’s position at the national team. It is believed that one faction wants the Rohr to stay, while another has lost confidence in him after the team’s mixed results in the African’s World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria had to wait until match-day six in order to secure the lone ticket from Group C. They were held to 1-1 draw by Cape Verde, a result that left fans disappointed.

The Super Eagles ended the Second Round of 2022 World Cup qualifying with four wins, a draw and a loss in a haul of 13 points.

There has been no official confirmation from the Nigeria Football Federation as yet, and Ducor Sports will continue to monitor the situation.

Rohr signed a new contract with the Super Eagles in June and is expected to lead the three-time Africa Champions until 2022.

The Franco-German coach got the Super Eagles job in 2016 6 as a permanent replacement for Sunday Oliseh.

He won his first match as Eagles coach and has a record of 29 wins, 13 losses and 10 draws in 54 matches in charge of the Nigerian senior national team.
