France-born Goalkeeper Clement Diop Opts for Senegal National Team

Senegal coach Alioune Cisse has been offered huge options in goal following the addition of Clement Diop. The France-born committed his international future to Senegal after accepting an invitation from the Senegalese FA.

Diop, currently playing for Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, has starred for France at cadet levels in goal before switching allegiance to the West African nation.

The 23-year-old’s addition could make him understudy to Turkey-based Abdoulaye Diallo with Khadim N’Diaye and Pape Seydou Ndiaye playing in Guinea and in Senegal respectively, expected to drop down the pecking order.

The LA Galaxy goalkeeper qualifies to play for Senegal by parental descent.

he said at his unveiling.

Diop will immediately get down to business with the 2002 Word Cup quarter-finalists and is in the fold to make his debut against Equatorial Guinea on Thursday, June 8th, 2017.

A career spanning in 2011, Diop started out with Ligue 1’s Amiens before moving to the US to join LA Galaxy.
