Former France Assistant Coach Linked With Lone Stars Coaching Job

French coach Pierre Mankowski is reportedly being lined up to replace Thomas Kojo as Lone Stars coach

French coach Pierre Mankowski is reportedly being lined up to replace Thomas Kojo as Lone Stars coach.

The 67-year-old, who has been jobless for the last two years, is said to have received an enticing offer for the Liberia national team job.

Liberia Football Federation (LFA) has been under pressure to replace Kojo after recent unsatisfactory results and according to sources the federation has bowed to pressure and is set to hire Mankowski.

LFA president Mustafa Raji is reported to have arrived at the decision with the executive committee, as his organization had an agreement with Kojo to terminate the contract if Liberia failed to progress to the CHAN 2020 qualifiers.

The Lone Stars were bundled out on a 3-1 aggregate by Senegal in a two-legged despite the LFA administration providing all the necessary support to the coaching staff.

Mankowski is a well-known tactician in Europe having previously been in charge of France U-16, U-18 and U-21 national teams and at one time served as an assistant coach for Les Blues.

Although Mankowski has been linked with a club in the French league, the Liberia Lone Stars job looks more attractive and promising, giving that the West African country is rebuilding and in need of an experienced coach like him.

His immediate task will be guiding the team past Chad in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier set for October.
