FKF Cup: Bidco United Stun Nairobi City Stars To Book Gor Mahia In Semifinals
Bidco FC United qualified for the FKF Betway Cup semifinals after a narrow 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars on Thursday afternoon.
David Orem struck the solitary goal on 21 minutes to send the Thika-based outfit into their first-ever semi-finals of the domestic cup.
Alex Juma had the first effort of the game after five minutes, the Bidco winger unleashed a shot from distance which went wide of the left-hand post.
Just a minute later and David Agesa nearly opened the scoring for City Stars but the striker fired his effort inches wide of Omar Adisa’s post.
Bidco were restricted to long range efforts in the opening exchanges, with Stephen Waruru also deciding to have shot at goal but the striker fired his effort well wide of the target.
City Stars first effort on goal arrived in the 18th minute as Nicholas Kipkirui fired straight at Adisa, who safely held on.
Three minutes later Bidco broke the deadlock courtesy of Orem as he sent a lob past Steve Njunge to make it 1-0.
Stephen Waruru almost doubled the scoring in the 33rd minute but the striker’s free kick crashed onto the woodwork.
The second half started off slowly, with neither side managing to create any clear cut openings.
Antony Kimani nearly brought City Stars level in the 73rd minute with a shot from distance but Adisa did well palm the effort away.
That was as good as it got for City Stars, who failed to create any openings in the closing stages as Bidco held on for a semifinal spot.
Elsewhere, Burkina Faso import Abdul Karim and Kenyan international Sydney Ochieng handed Gor Mahia a 2-0 win over 2018 champions Kariobangi Sharks, who bow out of the knockout cup competition.
Following the slim wn, K’Ogalo will face another FKF Premier League side Bidco United in the last eight, with the other semifinal pitting 10-time winners AFC Leopards against FKF Division Two side Equity FC this weekend.
