Fiston Mayele Brace Gives Yanga Community Shield

Fiston Kalala Mayele scored twice on Saturday as Yanga beat Simba 2-1 to win the Community Shield at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Yanga’s new golden boy,Aziz Ki made the first goal when he glided through from central midfield and dinked the ball to Mayele, whose neat control allowed him to slide an angled shot past Beno Kakolanya and into the far corner of the net.

The second goal arrived when Mayele took hold of a perfect Faisal Salum pass to finish instinctively.

Simba were the first to find the back of the net courtesy of Papa Sakho when he collected a through pass before firing a beautiful volley past goalkeeper Djgui Diarra.

It was an exciting opening ten minutes as the action swung from end to end as both teams pushed forward in attack.

The first real threat on goal came in the fourth minute when a stinging volley from Habi Kyombo struck the Yanga crossbar.

Five minutes later the Citizens had their first shot on goal, but Aziz Ki fired his 25-yard free-kick inches wide of the post.

Kibu Dennis should have given Simba the lead in the 10th  minute when he broke through on goal, but was superbly denied in a one-on-one with Diarra.

A minute later Mayele did open the scoring for the home side when he pounced on through pass in the box after a defensive mix up and slotted home with clinical precision.

The score remained 1-0 to the Msimbazi Reds at the halftime break, despite their heavy dominance.

Sakho came close to  scoring the second in the 47th minute but his header was palmed away by Diarra.

Two minutes later Bernard Morrison nearly marked his return with a goal but he directed his header wide of the upright.

Yanga leveled the matter in the 50th minute as Burkina Faso international Azi Ki sent a lovely pass to Mayele who turned past defender before sending a powerful shot past Kakolanya.

The Citizens continued to control matters and maid their pressure tell in the 68th minute after Mayele found the back of the net with a good strike, 2-1.

Chances were hard to come by in the later stages of the second stanza and Okrah had the first opportunity for Simba on the 78th forcing a save out of Djigui.

Msimbazi Reds spent the last ten minutes on the attack, but could not find an equaliser as Yanga walked away with the Community Shield.
