Etoile du Sahel are open to offering their midfielder Yassine Chikhaoui a role after he retires from playing at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old revealed earlier this month that he is likely to retire at the end of the season.

He has spent two spells at the Jewel of the Coast where he won five trophies, including African Champions League, Tunisia Footballer of the Year 2006 and Tunisia top division league title.

Etoile du Sahel are keen to maintain a strong association with current and past players who helped bring huge success to the club.

Chikhaoui started his career at ESS in 2004 and went on to become the captain at the age of 19, which was a club record.

He was later snapped by FC Zürich on a five-year contract on 23 May 2007 before switching to Qatari League outfit Al-Gharafa Sports Club.

The midfielder later made a move to neighbouring Al-Ahli Sports Club in Doha where he lasted for a season before returning to his childhood club Etoile du Sahel in 2018.

The former Tunisia international lives close to the training ground in Sousse and also has a good relationship with the club president Ridha Charfeddine.

La Presse Tunisia reported that Chikhaoui could be offered a coaching or ambassadorial role.

It is understood to be too soon to say what role Chikhaoui would take, but it is reported that he knows Etoile du Sahel want to use his services.
