El Shenawy Back To Full Training

Al Ahly were handed a major boost on Monday when Mohamed El Shenawy returned to full training ahead of Tuesday’s Egyptian Premier League match against Misr Lel Makkasa.

The goalkeeper had been ruled out for between four to five weeks after suffering a muscle strain while on international duty with Egypt last month but has made a quicker-than-expected recovery.

The Red Devil’s second choice goalkeeper Ali Lotfi has kept a couple of clean sheets in the 33-year-old’s absence, producing a world class performance in recently concluded Club World Cup where the African giants scooped bronze medal.

Al Ahly released a statement on Monday confirming El Shenawy is back to full training and will be available for selection in the upcoming matches.

“Mohamed El Shenawy, Al Ahly’s football first-team goalkeeper, took part in Monday’s training session at El Tetsh Stadium after recovering from his injury,” the club posted on their official portal.

El Shenawy suffered the injury during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2021 round of 16 football match between Ivory Coast and Egypt at Stade de Japoma in Douala on January 26.

The El Hamool-born glovesman has won five Egyptian Premier League titles and two Egypt Super Cups since joining the club from Petrojet in 2016.

A 1.91m tall, El Shenawy has a commanding presence in the air and is also hard to beat in on one-on-one situations.

The shots stopper started his career at second division side El-Hamool before joining Al Ahly Academy in 2002.

He moved from the Cairo giant’s academy in 2009 and started a new football trip representing Egyptian Premier League clubs Talae El-Geish, Haras El-Hodoud and Petrojet.
