Maher was forced off just 15 minutes into the Olympic Pharaohs’ opening game against Mali that was played last Friday at Cairo Stadium.

The 22-year-old has returned to his club for further treatment, with a statement from Egyptian FA medical team indicating that his injury needs four to six weeks of rehabilitation.

“Maher won’t be available for the rest of the African Cup after suffering a dislocated shoulder during the game against Mali,” reads a statement by the EFA.

“Scans revealed that the player is suffering from a ligament tear that needs rehabilitation time from four to six weeks. The technical staff is very sad about losing the player’s services,” the statement added.

Egypt beat Mali 1-0 with the goal coming from Mostafa Mohamed in the first stanza after heading a cross from Ahmed Abo Elfetouh past Mali goalkeeper Youssouf Koita.

The Olympic Pharaohs will play their next Group A match against Ghana on Monday in their quest to be among the top three teams that will represent Africa in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.
