Dstv Premiership Match Called Off Due To Inclement Weather

The Dstv Premiership fixture between Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United has been called off due to heavy rainfall.

The Dstv Premiership fixture between Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United has been called off due to heavy rainfall.

There was a heavy rainfall before the start of the match at Dr Molemela Stadium and without a proper drainage system in place and rain not stopping, the game was ultimately called off.

Lighting was also reported near the venue which also contributed to match commissioner calling off the game due to safety of the players.

Previously, once a storm had moved away the match officials would make a decision on the game continuing.

The new FIFA rules prescribe an actual radius in kilometres that the lightning must be from the stadium.

On Wednesday, the storm rained around the Dr Molemela Stadium forcing the encounter which was to kick off at 17h00 to be postponed.

The date for the rescheduled fixture is yet to be announced.

“The #DStvPrem Fixture between @Bloem_Celtic and @ChippaUnitedFC has been called off due to inclement weather,” the Premier Soccer League (PSL) tweeted.

“A new date and Kick-off time will be confirmed in due course.”

PSL added that it sought the postponement “given the exceptional situation caused by the storm across and the impossibility of having the pitch in optimal condition.
