DR Congo Set To Sack Coach Nsengi-Biembe

Word coming out of Kinshasa is that the Democratic Republic of Congo Football Association (FECOFA) is set to terminate the contract of Leopards coach Christian Nsengi-Biembe.

This is after the Leopards failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.

Ducor Sports is informed that the announcement is set to be made by FECOFA president Constant Omari during a recorded interview set to be broadcasted on Wednesday by a French sports channel, Canal+.

FECOFA’s administration met last Thursday where they discussed Leopard’s failure to qualify for the 2021 AFCON after a 3-0 defeat away to Gabon‚ where a win would have placed them in a better position for them to clinch qualification.

The Leopards’ failure book a ticket to Cameroon 2021 AFCON finals raised questions and fueled public doubts on whether Nsengi-Biembe has the credentials to qualify for the World Cup.

The Qatar 2022 draw placed DR Congo  in Group J alongside Benin, Madagascar and Tanzania, and though Leopards could be considered favorites, both Madagascar and Benin greatly impressed in the recent Nations Cup Qualifiers.

Nsengi-Biembe took charge of DR Congo national team August 2019 following the departure of Florent Ibenge who quit the job after leading the Leopards to three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Meanwhile, the names of Claude Le Roy and Thierry Froger have been mentioned as possible replacements should the axe fall on Nsengi-Biembe today.

TP Mazembe coach Pamphile Mihayo Kazembe and Lille OSC manager Christophe Galtier have also been linked with the national team coaching job.
