DR Congo Face Benin Test On Road To Qatar 2022

DR Congo will face a test of their character and skill when they wrap up their Group J campaign in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers with a clash against Benin at Stade des Martyrs on Sunday.

Ahead of the clash, the Leopards need a win to boost their chances of reaching the global tournament in Qatar next year.

DR Congo have put themselves in a strong position to advance into the next and final round of qualification after they defeated Tanzania 3-0 at home on Thursday.

Sitting on position two, DR Congo will hope to leapfrog to the top of the table with a home win though Benin need only avoid defeat to head into the playoffs.

Cedric Bakambu and Dieumerci Mbokani are expected to join forces in the attack once again, keeping Yannick Bolasie on the bench.

“Benin is a good team combining players with great individual skill, but we are ready for the game,” DR Congo coach Hector Cuper said.

“We have studied Benin well. We will be focusing on their weak points, but we are not sure about their squad for the next game, especially since they may call up new people.”

Fresh from a win against Madagascar last week,  Benin are motivated to play away in a hostile crowd in Kinshasa.

Benin sit top of the group with 10 points from three wins, one draw and one loss.

Coach Michel Dussuyer faces a tough assignment against a strong Congolese team, but he will push to shock their hosts.

The Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa is the venue on Sunday for the crunch qualifier at 13:00 (GMT).
