Didier Gomes Appointed New Simba Coach

Simba Sports Club have confirmed the appointment former Al Merreikh boss Didier Gomes Da Rosa as their new head coach.

Simba Sports Club have confirmed the appointment of  former Al Merreikh boss Didier Gomes Da Rosa as their new head coach.

Da Rosa’s first test with the Tanzania Premier League champions will be against Sudanese giants Al Hilal on Wednesday in an international tournament dubbed ‘Simba Super Cup’.

The 51-year-old gaffer was recently linked with the Burundi job, but his prospects took a knock when the central African nation agitated for a local coach.

Da Rosa, who guided Al-Merraikh in the African Champions League groups stages, is reported to have signed a two-year contract with the Msimbazi Reds.

The French football manager will work together with Brazilian Milton Nienov who will act as one of the four-member technical bench.

Da Rosa previously had a spell with Ismaily SC of Egypt where he was sacked in August owing to a spate of poor results.

He had a successful stint with Guinean giants Horoya AC where he was sacked in November 2019 despite guiding the team to the league title last season.

He also had a stint with Cameroonian side Coton Sport from 2013 to 2015, winning the league title twice, the Cup once, besides reaching the Confederation Cup semi-final.

His job at Al Merreikh was Gomes third stint in an Arab country, as he previously guided Algeria’s CS Constantine in the 2015/2016 season, reaching the Confederation Cup quarters and also the Algerian Cup semis.
