Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango has signed an extended contract with South Africa’s Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns until 2025.

The 33-year-old deal was set to expire in the summer of 2021, but he will now remain at Tshwane-based giants, a team that he joined nine years ago.

During that time he worked his way up to become the club’s undisputed No. 1, winning three league titles and the CAF Champions League title in 2016 as well as the CAF Super Cup the following year.

Onyango is currently the best goalkeeper in Africa having been named in the Confederation of African Football’s Best XI.

He received the prestigious accolade alongside world superstars such as the Liverpool duo of Mane and Salah.

The Ugandan high-flying captain was also the only African based player to make the best eleven.

The former SC Villa (Uganda), St. George FC (Ethiopia) and SuperSport United (South Africa) is expected to lead the Cranes squad for this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
