Daniel Cousin Puts Gabon on Notice Over Unpaid Salary

The Gabon national team technical bench led by coach Daniel Cousin has reportedly been working with no salary since their appointment on September last year.

The Gabon national team technical bench led by coach Daniel Cousin has reportedly been working with no salary since their appointment on September last year.

The government through the Ministry of Sports have not been able to meet the responsibility they took of paying Cousin and his crew.

Ducor Sports now understands the coach, currently in England, has vowed not to return to work unless his six-month salary is paid in full.

Gabon Football Federation (Fegafoot) has acknowledged through a statement that they have not been able to pay the coach since his appointment.

“Salary problems of Daniel Cousin and all his predecessors fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Sports,” reads the statement.

Despite the off-field destructions, Cousin is expected to prepare the Panthers for a crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations fixture against Burundi set to be played next month in Bujumbura.

Cousin replaced Juan Antonio Camacho after the former Spain boss won just two matches during his two-year spell.

So far, Cousin has won two matches against South Sudan in AFCON qualifiers and lost last one game, by a solitary goal, to Mali.

The 41-year-old former striker, played 56 times for Gabon and had been general manager of the Panthers since 2014. He had stints with Lens, Rangers and Hull City.

Gabon are currently third in Group C qualifying group with seven points and a win against Burundi will be enough to see them qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations set to be played in Egypt.
