Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen are reportedly planning a January move for former Celtic midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu.

The DR Congo international has been without a club having been released by Celtic at the end of last season, with no role to play at Parkhead under Neil Lennon.

According to various media reports, the Dons are keen to add Mulumbu to their ranks to help improve on the midfield area.

Aberdeen’s manager Derek McInnes was interested in bringing Mulumbu to Pittodrie back in the summer but didn’t follow it up with a bid.

But now Mclnenes believes that Mulumbu, who played under him for a short time at French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain nine seasons ago, could spark his side into a push for the Champions League places.

The 32-year-old former West Brom and Norwich City enforcer really struggled to make an impact in the famous green and white hoops where he made just three appearances before returning to Kilmarnock on loan in January.

Mulumbu had been linked with a move French Ligue 1 duo Nimes and Dijon back in June after falling down the pecking order at Celtic due to poor form.

Aberdeen are fifth in the Scottish Premiership table, having accumulated 18 points from 11 round of matches.
