Christian Atsu Quits Ghana National Team

Black Stars attacking midfielder Christian Atsu has made a big decision that might impact Ghana’s football and his legacy.

Black Stars attacking midfielder Christian Atsu has made a big decision that might impact Ghana’s football and his legacy.

Atsu popularly known as the Ghanaian Messi has officially served notice to Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor saying that he will no longer be available for selection.

The 28-year-old talented Newcastle winger was initially left out of the squad that was set to face Sudan in a botched 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

According to Ghanasoccernet.com, Atsu delivered the message when he met coach Akonnor during his recent visit England recently on a tour of Europe to meet Black Stars players.

Atsu last played for Ghana in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt during his country’s 0-0 stalemate against Cameroon.

He picked a hamstring injury just 15 minutes in the game and was later flown to England for further treatment with the Tyneside club.

Reports say that the Ghana Football Association officials neglected him at the hour of need, and the nagging injury has since prevented him from finding top form in a Magpies shirt.

Atsu has been a regular feature for the Black Stars since making his debut in 2012, and has so far participated in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and a FIFA World Cup in 2014.

In 2015, Atsu was speculated to have made the provisional list of nominees for the Ballon d’Or, the same year he was shortlisted for the African footballer of the year accolade.
