CFFA Forfeits GD Interclube CAF Confederation Cup Match

CFFA are set to face far-reaching consequences after the team dished a ‘walkover’ in CAF Confederation Cup first round, second leg match.

The Madagascar side is slated to take on the GD Interclube Estadio Joaquim Dinis on Friday but that won’t happen since the club has informed Confederation of African Football (CAF) that they won’t travel to Angola.

According to CAF regulations, apart from financial penalties, any club that withdraws from competitions after the announcement of the fixtures gets banned from CAF inter club competitions for two editions.

CFFA lost the first leg match to Interclube 3-0 with the opener coming from Mano before Caarlos Antonio Constantico scored a brace.

Interclube have now given a free pass to the next round of CAF Confederation Cup where they will face one of losers of the CAF Champions League first round.

“CFFA declared a forfeit of this fixture. This means Desportivo Interclube will automatically qualify for the Additional Second Preliminary Round of the competition,” reads part of CAF statement.

CFFA sailed past preliminary round of CAF Confederation Cup by beating Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors 2-1 in aggregate, after both teams had played to a 0-0 in the first leg played in Antananarivo on September 12.
