Cash-strapped Club Africain Raise a Near US$50,000 After a Week of Donation-seeking

Former African Club Cup winners Tunisia’s Africain Club have raised close to US$50,000 in donations from well-wishers.

Former African Club Cup winners Tunisia’s Club Africain have raised close to US$50,000 in donations from well-wishers.

The club is rocked by crisis and their coffers dried up with debts hovering over their neck including a potential FIFA sanction.

Former players like Zimbabwe’s Mattthew Rusike have already sued the club to FIFA demanding payment of wages owed to him during his time there.

Consequently, the world football governing body gave the North Africans an ultimatum, a deadline they failed to honour resulting in the Zurich institution imposing sanctions in the form of a six-point deduction.

Club Africain now languish just little below the table basement of the Tunisian Premier League.

The crisis, spanning from former president Slim Riahri’s time, led the team into setting up a bank account under the tagging CA Coin, seeking cash donations aimed at resolving present and future disputes.

The move has raised a total US$19,589.61. The Tunisian FA also stepped in to set up a separate account dubbed FTF Litigation CA, racking up US$28,684.79.

The sums were published Wednesday evening with Club Africain thanking donors for coming to their aid.
