Cameroon Coach Clarence Seedorf On His Way Out

Cameroon sports minister has instructed the Cameroon Football Association to terminate Indomitable Lions coach Clarence Seedorf following the team’s elimination from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Cameroon sports minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has instructed the Cameroon Football Association (Fecafoot) to terminate Indomitable Lions coach Clarence Seedorf following the team’s elimination from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The defending champions were eliminated by Nigeria in the quarterfinals of the tournament when they lost 3-2 in a match played at the Alexandria Stadium in the Egyptian city on July 6, 2019.

This left Seedorf’s job hanging, and the country’s Sports Minister has ordered Fecafoot to terminate his contract and begin the search for his replacement.

“When you consider all that was done and the poor results obtained, in all objectivity, there’s no need to continue having Clarence Seedorf as head of Cameroon’s men’s football team,” the minister told national broadcaster CRTV.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “I’ve spoken with the President of Cameroon’s Football Federation (Seidou Mbombo Njoya) and I’ve asked him to activate a clause in a contract that makes room for the termination of his deal with Cameroon.”   [/perfectpullquote]

The Minister also accused Seedorf of being unable to manage the group and instil the fighting spirit while also highlighting differences between the coach and his assistants which made their working relationship difficult.

Seedorf, a renowned figure in international football, was appointed in August last year, having previously not had national team coaching experience.

The former Dutch star has won just three of nine competitive games since taking over the Indomitable Lions alongside assistant Patrick Kluivert.

Meanwhile, Seedorf is said to have received a salary up to August 2019 and all benefits earned during the team’s participation in the Nations Cup.
