Cameroon Book Afcon U-17 Ticket

Cameroon booked ticket at the 2019 African Under-17 Championships in Tanzania after thrashing Congo Brazzaville 3-1 at the finals of Central African Football Federations Union (UNIFFAC) U-17 Championship held on Sunday in Malabo.

Nassourou Ndong, Alimoun Saidou and Ismaela Sadou were the heroes of the night, thanks to a sloppy defence by the Congolese side who all along played casually.

It was a story of complete Cameroon dominance in both the first and second halves but an agile Congolese goalkeeper with an organised defense meant the hosts would keep a clean slate at the half an hour mark.

Alioum Mubarak and Isamela Sadou were slippery customers for the Congolese defense but Steve Muvoue who led the Cameroonian attack was always caught out of position.

Nassourou Ndong made amends in 36th minute, after which Congo controlled the play with their disciplined defending and excellent organisation.

He almost struck again in the first minute of the second half, but was denied by a combination of the post and Congolese goalkeeper.

Congo had two shouts for handball in the Cameroon box that were turned down by referee but in truth they failed to create enough opportunities against the robust Cameroon.

Two minutes before the end of the first half, Alimoun Saidou made two and they were not done yet though as Ismaela Soudou added the third in the second stanza but in the dying embers of the game Congo pulled one back.

The Baby Lions had a 100 percent winning record in the competition and also netted a healthy 17 goals in their four games, while only conceding five goals only to be crowned worthy champions.

Cameroon will hope to use that the CAF Championship to qualify for the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru in what will be their fourth appearance at the continental showpiece event.
