Ahead of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations  (AFCON) in Cameroon, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a new ball for the elite competition.

The new official match ball, designed by sports giants Umbro, has been named Toghu, and its design is inspired by after the traditional outfit that is very popular in the Central African nation.

Toghu features simple technological features including a smart panel configuration and has been declared by FIFA as suitable for high level games.

The ball will be used by the 24 teams during the 52 matches to be played at the competition between 09 January 2022 and 06 February 2022.

Teams are expected to start arriving in Cameroon before Christmas for the continental showdown, which has pooled the 24 teams into six groups of four each.

Various teams will play final pre-AFCON friendly games before the start of next year and then  shift focus to the Cameroon games.

Cameroon has prepared six stadiums for the event, spread across five cities; Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, Garoua and Buea.

The opening match will pit tournament host and five-time Africa Cup of Nations winners Cameroon against Burkina Faso, runners-up of 2013 AFCON.
